Travis Ross and I first met when I built a new BHPH dealership in Indianapolis. He was recommended to me as someone who could help me build this new dealership with his experience in BHPH and his connections to the auto industry in that market. Travis was above expectations and Became the General Manager for the operation for several years. We had rapid growth with a four-person sales team, a full-service department, and a lot that held 120 vehicles.
During those years, Travis was not responsible for collections, but his understanding and experience in that department helped us build a large portfolio. On occasion, the delinquency would rise, and I would have Travis focus on helping bring the numbers back in line. He could get customers to pay better than any collection team I had worked with prior.
A little later, as I became more involved in Consulting, I became the Fractional COO of a very mature operation in Chicago that was struggling. Once I made an assessment I knew the main issue was the Finance company, specifically collection policies and the team's attitude. I again asked Travis for his direct involvement to help
correct the Finance Company's downward spiral. Travis came right in and took control. Travis identified the issues and began correcting them. The number of unresolved accounts, repossessed cars that were not recovered, the number of vehicles that were recovered but not sold, and the collections team's lack of drive or understanding of how to do better were all mountains to get over and Travis cleared all the hurdles, built a new team and recovered all the dollars that could be gained as quickly as possible, improving the delinquency and revenue stream. More importantly, his team did all that and improved the reputation and customer experience, which helped sales improve as time went on.
Travis and his team will be able to help any dealer wanting to improve their account management, having a very professional team effectively handling all aspects of collections and recovery, without the issues that come from daily management and decisions needed to keep a portfolio performing as it should.
